We always strive to share only good news, but sometimes we have to deliver not so pleasant updates as well.
It is worth noting that any finite resource eventually depletes, leading to the emergence of a secondary market, scarcity, and price hikes. As everyone knows, a secondary market is the resale of a resource second-hand, when it is sold by a subsequent owner. The primary market could be considered the allocation of networks when the RIPE NCC registry issued the required number of IP addresses to member companies subject to an annual fee. Once the entire address pool was exhausted and RIPE announced the allocation of the final network, a secondary market began to emerge, with prices rapidly escalating from $6,000 per network to $20,000 per 1,024 IPs as recently as this past winter. In the summer of 2021, speculative investors capitalized on the shortage and doubled prices to $40,000 per network.
The last /22 network was allocated by RIPE NCC on November 25, 2019. Ever since that date until now, we maintained the prices of additional IPs for our clients; however, following another two-fold cost increase, we must consider the future of the company and take action. All additional IPs issued for VPS and dedicated servers will now cost $3/month instead of the previous $2/month. This price adjustment applies to both new and existing orders. The cost of the primary server IP and dedicated IP for web hosting remains unchanged for now.
We are far from the first to take the route of increasing IPv4 prices; this is an irreversible trend that will be followed by every provider who cares about their future and current clients.
